VICT become NAVIS' first customer in the Asia Pacific region
OAKLAND, CA and HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam - March 14, 2007 -- Navis, the global leader in enterprise software solutions for supply chain execution, has signed its first customer in Vietnam. The Vietnam International Container Terminals (VICT) Ho Chi Minh City facilities will implement the Navis SPARCS terminal operating system (TOS) in mid 2007.
Officials at VICT made the announcement about the installation of the SPARCS TOS during a special signing ceremony where they also announced the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City facilities. The expansion will enable VICT to meet the strong demand for container handling facilities. Container throughput growth is estimated at 20 percent per annum and is expected to remain high, following the nation's entry into the World Trade Organization.
To help manage this expected growth, VICT will implement the SPARCS TOS to provide yard and vessel planning capabilities. Navis' proven software will enable VICT to further improve terminal management and container handling productivity.
"The SPARCS TOS system will help VICT to maximize productivity and ensure we can handle the increase in volume without compromising on efficiency for our customers. This will enable us to maintain our position as one of Vietnam's leading container ports," said Truong Quoc Hung, Chairman of VICT.
VICT's General Director Joseph Wann agreed. "VICT chose SPARCS TOS because the software will provide up-to-date information on events throughout the Ho Chi Minh City facilities to help the terminal measure productivity gains, track lost time on cranes or in the yard, and react immediately to any exceptions," Wann said.
In 1998, VICT began operations as the country's first purpose built container terminal. Since then, handling capacity has increased from under 50,000 TEU in 1999, to nearly 450,000 TEU in 2006. VICT's expansion will bring total berth length to 678 meters, and raise handling capacity to 900,000 TEU by 2008.
"VICT has become one of the great success stories of this exciting and fast growing nation in the nine years since the terminal first started its operations," said John Dillon, CEO at Navis. "The Navis SPARCS TOS will enable VICT to address tough challenges that may arise, as a result of its growth, and will help officials successfully meet or exceed their business goals. We look forward to working with VICT as it enters a new phase in its development as Vietnam’s premier container port."
